Howdy folks. lot's going on at the farm. A few cows and calves sold to friends toward Austin. Reports are they are having good luck. Pineywoods cattle are staying strong although with little rain the grass is weak and summer may be a real challenge.
Preserving One of America's Original Cattle Breeds
I have a passion for the unexpected and the Pineywoods cattle certainly fall into that category. Most people confuse this breed with the more well-know Texas Longhorn. The Pineywoods Cattle, however, pre-date this legendary cow with a history as vast as the pineywoods region of the Gulf Coast where they grew up. The Pineywoods breed was on the brink of extinction just a few short years ago. Today there are only a few thousand head know to exist and only about 100 head in Texas. The Double H Farm in Duster, TX (Comanche County) is one of a handfull of breeders in Texas to raise the Pineywoods cattle and we are always looking for other farmers, ranchers, and conservationists to join us in efforts to save this native cattle breed.
All Pineywoods cattle at the Double H Farm are registered with the Pineywoods Cattle Registry and Breeders Association (PCRBA) and are all purebred Pineywoods. We are currently working to preserve the Conway family strain. Breeding stock are available for sale.
